Playing Omaha Poker

Omaha is a game of poker much the same as Texas Hold’em, however it differs in one very significant way, participants must use two of their hole cards as well as three common cards even if the player could build a better hand with say one of their hole cards and four common cards.  Just like in Texas Hold’em, there are community cards that the competitors all can make use of and personal playing cards available only to the person who was given them, also as in Texas Hold’em  every player tries to assemble the highest conventional poker hand.  Unlike Texas Hold’em every player is dealt four face down cards (rather than two), and has to employ two of their personal cards in addition to three known cards to construct a total five card set of cards.  Standard Omaha Hold’em is a version of the poker game in which the best hand wins, however Omaha Hi/Lo is just as (if not more) well-liked, splitting pots among high and low hands.

As in Texas Hold’em the action is started with two players putting in mandatory bets known as “blinds” (so called as at this moment no person has viewed any cards thus they are wagering sight unseen).  The blinds are placed into the pot by the two competitors sitting on the left of the dealer, with the individual immediately to the dealers left putting up the small blind and the player to their left placing the big bind.

All players are then dealt four cards face down, these are referred to as pocket cards or hole cards.  The player to the left of the one who made the big blind is the initial participant to act he or she has three alternatives: raise the bet, call the wager or fold their hand.  The betting continues around the table clockwise.

Following the end of the round of wagering the flop is dealt, the flop consists of three cards dealt face up in the center of the poker table.  The flop is the first three of the “community cards” that all of the players use in conjunction with her or his hole cards in an attempt to build the best hand.  After the flop a further round of betting takes place beginning with the person on the dealers left, she or hehas the choice of: laying it down, betting or checking.

A further card is placed face up and joins the rest of the three community cards in the center of the poker table this playing card is known as “the turn” or “fourth street”.  After this a new round of betting follows.

A new card is added to the four current face up common playing cards, this card is referred to as “the river” or often “fifth street”.  Once this playing card is dealt the final round of betting takes place.

The participants left at the poker table next display their hands starting with the last player to wager.  In building their final hand a person has to use two of his or her four hole cards and three of the five community playing cards from the center of the table, no different arrangement is allowed.  If playing Omaha Hi, the best hand takes the pot..

The beginning (hole) cards initially dealt to players are important to you if you would like to be victorious at Omaha Hi, the best possible starting hand would contain two Aces a Queen and a King (double suited).  Other good starting cards for winning Omaha playing would contain: two pairs (superior if they are high value pairs), any four-card connectors, 10 Jack Queen King and Suited Aces.
